Parents and kids came together to learn Merengue while practicing new dance steps and partner techniques.
The program encourages confidence, cooperation, and respect through partner dancing, giving families the chance to learn something new while connecting with one another.

Allie’s Place Family Residence
Allie’s Place Family Residence, opened in March 2020, combines the services of a traditional family shelter with a range of programs designed to meet the needs of both the shelter residents and members of the surrounding neighborhood of Soundview in the Bronx.
Allie’s Place has 99 studio units for families with children, generally accommodating a pregnant mother or family consisting of one parent and one child. On-site services include afterschool & recreation programs, social services, including housing assistance, and access to on-site substance use treatment through Camelot. Allie’s Place is the location of the Culinary Center at Allie’s Place.
Allie’s Place Afterschool & Recreation
The Allie’s Place Afterschool & Recreation program is open to Allie’s Place residents and the surrounding community, serving children ages 5 to 16 in a fun, safe, and enriching environment where participants can build academic confidence, develop friendships, and feel a strong sense of belonging.
Allie’s Place Family Services
Allie’s Place has a dedicated Family Services team who guides residents in creating an individualized plan to move on to permanent housing. This support is provided by Case Managers who work one-on-one with each family, Client Care Coordinators (social workers) who provide more specialized assistance, trainings, and referrals, and Housing Specialists who focus on housing needs—from apartment referrals to voucher application assistance.
Culinary Center at Allie’s Place
The Culinary Center at Allie’s Place prepares adult students for careers in the food and hospitality industry. The program helps students build the practical skills, industry knowledge, and professional confidence needed to pursue opportunities in restaurants, cafés, commercial and institutional kitchens, hospitals, schools, food halls, and cafeterias. The Center is enrolling students who reside in one of HFH’s family residences and from the local Bronx community.
