The children and youth, ages five to 16, who attend the APFR afterschool and recreation program chose the Allie’s Gator as their program mascot. Monday through Friday, from 3 to 6 pm, the afterschool and rec team provides an environment that creates a sense of belonging, builds academic confidence, and helps foster new interests and friendships. Their objective is to provide a fun, safe, and enriching environment.

A typical afterschool session starts with kids playing games, coloring, or chatting with their teachers about how their school-day was while having a snack. Once the children settle in, there is homework time, a main activity, family-style dinner with their friends, and dismissal.

Sample activities include: DMF Youth dance and movement with a trained instructor that also focuses on social and emotional learning; structured one-on-one tutoring; Science Technology Engineering Arts and Movement or STEAM lessons; playtime in on-site backyard or sprinkler; arts and crafts, and movies.
