As Seen on News 12 The Bronx Yesterday, NYC Council Member Amanda Farias visited Allie’s Place Center for Culinary Education & Employment on the 3rd day of the Barista job-training course—where students learn to operate a pop-up coffee shop where they take orders, prepare drinks, and serve customers. Her visit focused on the importance of workforce development programs for the vitality of our neighborhoods and city, as a whole. She met with HFH Deputy Executive Director Gretchen Hernandez, Allie’s Place Administrator Julissa Lantigua, Assistant Chef Instructor Jayda Gabriel, and graduates of the Barista program. Allie’s Place Center for Culinary Education & Employment Welcomes New Culinary Intern from the Community: Noreen Noreen started at Allie’s Place Center for Culinary Education & Employment as a student in Culinary Essentials 1, the Center’s core five-day job-training course. Having developed a passion for learning the ins and outs of various cuisines, she went on to take a collection of other courses, including a Ravioli Workshop and Classic French baking. Her strong work ethic and willingness to learn new skills stood out to the Culinary Team, and she was offered a position for a three-month Culinary Internship in early January. “She's kind of a natural at just about anything. The Traditions of Thanksgiving Take on New Meaning at Allie’s Place This year, Thanksgiving at Allie’s Place Family Residence was not only an opportunity to enjoy a hot meal, but a means to strengthen the connections within the HFH community. The Culinary Team curated a homemade feast and assembled takeaway bags for the families at Allie’s Place. They distributed a total of 80 meals—each packed with herb stuffed turkey, honied carrots, wild rice pilaf, butternut squash soup, homemade cranberry sauce, gravy, cornbread with honey butter, and a freshly baked loaf of apple cake with caramel icing.
