HFH Summer Camps
Camps Lanowa and Wakonda have been in operation since 1989, and nearly 14,000 campers have enjoyed an unforgettable summer of fresh air, fun activities, and new friendships.
Our campers are boys and girls ages 7 through 13 who rarely get the chance to explore the world beyond New York City. Camps Lanowa and Wakonda are located 30 minutes from New York City, on the grounds of the 52,000-acre Harriman State Park, a lush preserve of woodland and lakes straddling New York's Rockland and Orange Counties.
Campers explore the park, which has over 200 miles of hiking trails, 31 lakes and reservoirs, camping grounds, beaches, and an abundance of wildlife.
Camps Lanowa and Wakonda provide children with educational activities and a true summer camp experience:
- Hiking and exploring on wooded trails
- Swimming and boating in a mountain lake
- Singing and telling stories around a campfire
- Sleeping in tents and cabins
- Reflecting on the sights and sounds of a new environment
- Learning about earth sciences and nature
- Practicing reading and writing skills
- Working with computers and technology
- Making arts and crafts
- Playing basketball and baseball
